Spanish or Italian Wooden Set

This fascinating set may well be the oldest complete set in the collection.   Based on the extremely old patina and tri-corner bishops, it probably dates to the 1600's. There are certain similarities with other sets that have been identified as Spanish, but my own research shows that its features also match chess sets as illustrated in antiquarian Italian chess books.
