J. Lemon Metal Figural Chess Set, 1876

A metal figural "knights in armour" chess set, copyright, J. Lemon, 1876, one side "silvered", the other side in gilt, kings and queens as monarchs, bishops in robes and mitres, knights as Richard Lionheart, his arm aloft, rooks as castles, pawns as knights holding spears, the underside of the circular base stamped: Copyright...1876...J. Lemon, in a leather-mounted presentation chess box and case (in the form of a book with gilt-tooled decoration), the interior lined in dark blue velvet, the king 11cm high.
