"Calvert Early" Pattern Ivory Chess Set by George Merrifield, 2Q 19th Century

A "Calvert style" ivory chess set, English, circa 1860, one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with double pierced galleries, queens with single pierced galleries, bishops with open mitres, knights as carved horses' heads with manes, rooks as turrets with battlements, pawns with baluster knop finials, the king 7.6cm high, the pawn 3.8cm high.

Based on the carved knightheads and other features, I can state with confidence that this set was manufactured by George Merrifield.
