A small mid-19th century English bone chess set in its rare sliding lid mahogany storage box with makers W. Howard paper trade label, the label reading W. Howard's, London Made, Chessmen with an engraving of a chessboard and chessmen. In pen under lid is inscribed, "Sara Rosa Smyth Aug. 2nd 1843". King 2 inches (5.4 cms) high. Storage box 4.24 x 3.25 x1.75 inches (10.8 x 8 x 4.5 cms).
