'Morse' English Ivory Playing Set

Jon's main chess page

A 19th century English ivory chess set, one side stained red and the opposing side left natural, the kings with pierced crowns and surmounted by Maltese crosses, the queens with ball finials, both on multi-disc turned stems, the bishops with pierced and carved open mitres, the knights as horses' heads, all on domed bases, the rooks as castellated towers with realistic stone block construction, the pawns of baluster form and with ball finials, both natural rooks stamped 'Morse'. King size 8.5cm, pawn 4cm. With a George III mahogany box.

I have not yet been able to locate Morse in any of the British historical resources, so I cannot confirm the dating given by the auction house from whom I obtained this set.
