A high-quality English set, virtually identical to one that is believed to have been retailed by James Leuchars circa 1810.

James Leuchars was William Leuchars' father. He first shows up in the London Directories circa 1802, and his store was located at 47 Piccadilly until circa 1820, after which it moved to 38 Piccadilly. After James' death, his widow Lucy took over the business. Eventually William Leuchars inherited the business. William Leuchars was one of the first retailers of the Jaques Staunton chess sets in 1849.
