Early English Wooden Set with Rook Flags, late 18th century |
||||
This set is clearly an early English wooden set, with the very rare feature that the rooks have drill-holes for flags. (These wooden flags are modern replacements.) Rook flags are often found on ivory and bone sets, but almost never on wooden sets. The characteristics of this set place it at late 18th century or possibly early 19th century.
