About Antique Ivory

My collection includes antique chess sets made of elephant ivory, and also several sets made of walrus ivory.  It is important to note that the ivory items in the collection have been acquired in full compliance with trade restrictions for endangered species.  Whenever required, I have obtained CITES certificates for legal importation of pre-ban ivory items. The ivory items in the collection are not only pre-ban, but almost all of them are at least 100 years old, and in some cases are more than 1,000 years old.

CITES stands for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.  Information regarding CITES may be found at www.cites.org.

CITES allows acquisition of legal pre-ban ivory because acquisition of these items is completely unrelated to illegal and immoral actions such as the poaching of endangered species.
